"What cook?" She asked not sure what the word meant

"…I’ll show you when we get home."

She nodded and went back to looking around the window, then turned back to him, “why no walk?”

"Long walk. This much quicker."

She nodded, this did seem quicker, if a bit strange. “Much long walk?”

Nat nodded.

"No much." Jamalia said glancing back, "Nat no walk much."

"Nat walk little bit. Beside…." Nat pulled up his pant leg to reveal that his leg was severely burned. "Hurts to walk too much."

"That fire?" She asked kneeling down next to it.

Nat nodded. “It hurt….”

"White men fire Jamalia." She said pulling he dress down to reveal the brand they had put on her shoulder, "fire hurt much."

Nat looked. “….sorry for Jamalia.”

She thought as she pulled her dress back up, “white men fire all slaves. Hurt much.”

Nat nodded. “Sorry to hear that.”

She sat back down and stared out the window before speaking, “white men put boat. Big boat… Home small, home no look.”

Octopus eggs Photo credit: Simon Chandra

FUN FACT: These eggs are evil. Octopus babies are evil. Let me tell you why. The octopus mother lays her eggs in a cave roof and spends 6 months guarding them from potential predators and swaying the eggs with her tentacle so they get oxygen. This means she doesn’t eat or sleep until they hatch. When the octopus babies hatch, she dies from fatigue and starvation. THEN THEY FUCKING EAT HER. THEY EAT THEIR MOTHER WHO DIED BECAUSE SHE WAS LOOKING AFTER THEM. THEY. EAT. HER.

This sounds like what my mother said i did to her

She watched and ate. It tasted odd but good.

He also brought her a glass of water. “Water.” he said, handing it to her.

She took it, “water.”

He then pushed up the bottom of the glass carefully so it rested against her lips.

Slowly she started drinking, dribbling some of it down her chin.

He waited until she was done and held out his hand for the cup.

She handed it back to him.

He put it in the sink before leading her back to the basement and pointing to her cell.

She backed away shaking her head, she didn’t want to go back in there.

Sighing, he grabbed her arm and began pulling her into the cell.

She screamed and tried to pull away from him.

He slapped her across the face to get her to shut up.

She shook her head and kept fighting.

Calling for more guards, they came and carried her inside, putting the cuff back on her ankle and locking it.

She screamed and tried to run out but was stopped by the chain. She sat on the floor. Trying not to cry.
